Proud members of the International Tang Soo Do Federation
Originating from Korea, Tang Soo Do is a martial art known for its graceful yet powerful movements. It teaches you how to harness your body and mind to achieve self-discipline, improve your physical fitness, and blend traditional Korean striking and blocking techniques with dynamic kicks and footwork.
At Triangle Karate, you will master the high kicks, precise hand strikes, and blocks – but you will also learn how to breathe, move, and think in harmony. We are a member of the International Tang Soo Do Federation and have the Grandmaster CS Kim’s stamp of approval. Master Thomas DuScheid is a 6th-degree black belt with over 25 years of martial arts wisdom that he now shares with his students.

Every exercise and drill in our curriculum forces you to use multiple parts of the body. When executing a high kick, for example, you utilize your leg muscles, your core (to maintain balance), your arms (to maintain posture and defense), and your back muscles (to support the movement).
This degree of engagement of several muscle groups results in a balanced development of strength throughout the body. This is particularly important for children because as they grow, developing leg strength and balance is critical for their physical development and coordination.
Each stance in Tang Soo Do has to be executed in a precise order, and this memorization is a fantastic workout for the brain. During our martial arts training, our instructors demand an immense level of concentration, be it for executing a form, sparring, or practicing basic techniques. We teach you how to be fully present and focused.
When living in an age of constant digital distractions, this skill is invaluable for you and your children. It will help kids to focus more in school and allow them to do better at work – regardless of your age, you will learn how to sustain concentration without feeling drained or bored.
Martial arts can help reduce stress and anxiety by encouraging you to practice deep breathing, meditation, and mindfulness. It helps train your mind to keep your attention focused while remaining calm and alert.
Just like exercise strengthens your body, challenges strengthen your mind. Martial arts can help by teaching you how to bounce back from setbacks and the importance of not letting life get you down, no matter how hard things get.
By practicing martial arts, you can master your mind and your emotions. That can help you develop greater emotional stability, assertiveness, self-confidence, and lessen aggressive feelings.
Practicing martial arts also offers a nice boost of "feel-good" chemicals like endorphins that lift your mood. And as you master the craft, you'll likely get a boost in confidence, too.
People who practice martial arts often feel a sense of calm, confidence, and renewed peace with who they are and their purpose in life.

Self-control is a central tenet of our Tang Soo Do classes. With each session, you get better and better at controlling your body and your reactions. In a world where everything is instant, learning to take a moment, breathe, and think is priceless. If you are struggling with teaching your kids to think before acting, kids martial arts training can do wonders. This can translate to better behavior at home and in school.
Think about Tang Soo Do as a journey, not just a set of classes. Every class, every move, it all adds up. Each belt marks a new level of skill. When you or your child earn a new belt, it is a tangible sign of personal development; it is proof that you are moving forward, getting better, and that your effort is paying off.
Throughout your journey from 10th Gup (White Belt) to Cho Dan (1st Black Belt) and further, you will learn patience and persistence. When you master the difficult self-defense techniques, you unlock the secrets of believing in yourself, no matter what. These small victories are huge for your child’s ability and self-improvement.
After you have had a long day, your mind is all over the place and you are feeling stressed, stepping into our Dojang (martial arts school) in Apex, NC, can transport you to a different world. When you are punching, kicking, and moving, your stress gets relieved. Tang Soo Do is vigorous and that is what makes it great for relieving tension. Your body starts to release endorphins with every move, which makes you feel good. The high-speed action drives you to focus on your breathing even when you are under pressure. It can also make it easier to handle stress outside of your martial arts class.
At Triangle Karate, we have separate and joint martial arts programs for kids, teenagers, and adults, so you get to train with people from all walks of life. Your children can learn to make friends with others outside their usual age group or social circle.
During training, there is a lot of working together – whether it is practicing a new move, holding pads for each other, or sparring in a controlled environment. This is a fun way to learn and grow for youngsters and adults alike. We have deliberately created a very supportive community in the Dojang so our students can build lasting friendships that go beyond just training together.
Unlike Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, and other similar adult martial arts classes that focus on theoretical, spiritual elements, our Tang Soo Do instructors teach you how to react and defend against different types of grabs, punches, and kicks. You will learn how to break free from any type of hold and how to use your body effectively to block or strike.
A key aspect of Tang Soo Do is learning self-defense by avoiding physical confrontation. Students are taught to be aware of their surroundings and to de-escalate potential threats without resorting to violence. If your child is getting bullied in school, we will help them hone their reflexes and handle conflicts intelligently.
At Triangle Karate, we bring the authentic Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do to your doorstep. Under the expert guidance of Master Thomas DuScheid, a 6th-degree black belt, our classes cater to all ages, making it a perfect family activity.
